HAPPY HAPPY! JOY JOY!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Dec 24, 2020 at 10:46:40 AM

I want to take the opportunity to wish each and every one of you the most Joyous Holiday season and the Happiest of New Years!

2020 was a miserable year by almost every measure, but working on this art book has been a pleasure. There were more hiccups than I anticipated, but I'm pleased with its development. I'm proud of this body of work, and I know you will enjoy it when it comes.

Right now the product is back in China for another round of proofs. I don't see any more coming after that. Stay tuned... the end is in sight!

Meanwhile, stay safe and have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Kwazy Kwanza, and a blissful, peaceful, productive New Year!

The first round of Proofs has been returned!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Nov 26, 2020 at 12:53:12 AM

I know this seems glacial in its pace, but progress is being made. I have marked up the first round of proofs and returned them for changes. Now the ball is in China's court again. I'm being as careful as I can be about getting the color and density of every image just right. So far, I am very pleased with what I see!

So please hang in there. As soon as the book is approved and printed I will start sending out surveys so that you can add other items, or change your address if you've moved in the last year.

Thank you again to all who jumped aboard at the beginning! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I don't think it's a train...

The UNVEILING!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 22, 2020 at 05:32:42 PM

My designer, Dqniel Kaufman (yes, he spells it with a q) and I open the packages containing the proofs. There was a beautiful slipcase version—the Special Edition—which interestingly contained only blank pages; there was a full-color mockup of the book, completely assembled; and there was a big loose-leaf book of low-res pages for making comments on. And then my batteries died...

THE PROOFS ARE IN!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 22, 2020 at 05:08:29 PM

Kickstarter completely screwed up my last two updates—you may not have received one or the other, or you might have received both. Or neither! Let's try again.

________________

It has been almost a year since the launch of the Kickstarter, so I know you're anxious—I am too. The arrival of the color proofs is a big moment.

Unfortunately, they're not quite perfect yet. A few pages need to have their color tweaked, I'm not completely happy with the foil we chose yet, but I am talking about sliver-thin tweaks. All-in-all, the book looks great!

The colors on parts, but not all, of the Dust Jacket were off, which is odd. But that's very easy to fix. OnTheMark told me that it will probably add another 4-5 weeks to the timeline to do another round of proofs, which is disappointing. But this is my last chance to represent my career in this big a bite. It has to be right. I want for you to be able to savor every page.

Once the books have arrived in good order, the surveys will go out. That could be... I'm guessing... four or more months out. I can't get a firm timeline until the design has been proofed and is perfect. I don't see a third round of proofs coming, but you never know. This is my first time, so plenty of the blame is on me for learning as I go. Printing has changed in the last twenty years!

In the video, watch as my designer, Dqniel (yes, he spells it with a q) open the packages and view the proofs together for the first time.

Thanks again for your patience! I appreciate you all coming along on this ride with me!

Waiting for color proofs...
over 3 years ago – Tue, Sep 29, 2020 at 02:36:57 AM

Thank you all so much for your patience. We are currently awaiting color proofs from the printers in China.   This is an important step—our last, best chance to catch things like poor color rendition or layout problems. I anticipate no trouble, but it's 2020, right? FIngers crossed that this book hits the presses soon. I would love it if we were fulfilling orders before Christmas, but I can't make any such promise. Hang on. We're making progress...
